Profile
Quilts are my way of expressing emotions that
I tend to internalize. When I name a quilt, I draw from those feelings
to give the viewer a little insight into my design concept of the piece.
"Emotional Drain", "Circle of Friends", "Unintentional
Departure", "Confusion Reigns", and "Lifesaver"
are just a few examples, and illustrates the depth of feeling I incorporate
into my art. Fiber art is an expressive outlet that gives me the opportunity
to make my dreams and concerns a reality. The art of quilting allows me
to explore these thoughts and visually offer them to the World.

Nancy began quilting being a hand work purtist, (Those of you that know
her might find thais a real hoot!). This allowed her to quilt, even as
she sat out in the yard keeping one eye on the kids as they played outside.
Of course, rotary cutting and speed stitching on the sewing machine quickly
took place of time-comsuming hand work. With this onset, there were two
more children in the world placed in front of daily cartoons for entertainment.
I mean, after all, it's difficult to carry a big old sewing machine out
to a picnic table!
Nancy is a gifted fiber artist who has developed her
own innovative quilting techniques over the past 17 years. Her work has
progressed from the traditional bed quilt to original contemporary wall
hagings. YLI thread Company has recently selected her as one of their
designers, which gives her the opportunity to share new and exciting techniques
with fiber artists around the world. Her quits have been viewed in many
juried art and quilting exhibits across the country, including the St.
Tammany art Show last year in Slidell. Several magazines articles, published
in such periodicals as Quilting Today and Quilters Newsletter Magazine,
have given Nancy's work international exposure. She is a quilting instructor
who travels extensively to generously share her craft with others, her
favorite venue being the John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown, North
Carolina. Each year she spends a week teaching teens the joy of quilting.
Nancy still finds time to manage the Box Office at the North Star Theatre,
an Equity Member Theatre located in Mandeville, LA.
Nancy lives in Covington with her husband, Dennis, who
teaches at Delgado Community College and has displayed his artistic talents
in the theatre - designing sets, and acting in many productions. Their
two grown children follow these same aspirations, as designer and artists
themselves.
